Before the Emmy Award winner joined WXYZ-TV, she was working in Pittsburgh PA at WPGH-TV as the anchor of the 10 p.m. newscasts. Clifford was thrilled to join WXYZ-TV since it reminds her of her childhood and where she was born.

Clifford went to Benedictine High School before joining Michigan State University where she graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. During her university years in Michigan, Carolyn joined the Michigan State Dance company and the Motion Dance Team with a dream of becoming a Broadway dancer.

The famous anchor was originally hired at WXYZ to anchor weekends and as the station’s health reporter. Detroit started waking up with Clifford when she joined the “7 Action News This Morning” team by May 2002. After being a co-anchor of 7 Action News at 11 p.m, Carolyn gave up her daily duties as Channel 7’s Health Reporter. Carolyn spent 13 years informing Detroiters about the latest developments in medical science and the effects they have on our community. She was also the host of the multiple Emmy-nominated half-hour health programs called “Healthy Living Sunday.” Clifford also worked at the CBS affiliates in both Orlando, FL and Lansing, Ml, but got her real start in news at a small radio station in Lansing.

She was among the journalists selected from across the country and the only news anchor in Michigan to be invited to the White House to interview President Obama about the Iran Nuclear Deal in 2015. This was among the best moments of her career because not many journalists can say they were lucky enough to interview a sitting president one-on-one. She has also interviewed Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, and NBA legends Michael Jordan and Earvin “Magic” Johnson. she has also covered everything from hurricanes in North Carolina to former South African President Nelson Mandela’s first visit to Michigan after he was freed from prison. Clifford also has a handful of awards and nominations. She was nominated as Hero of The Year” by the YWCA of Western Wayne County. She was also honored by the Detroit Urban League for her community and Detroit City Council and volunteer work in the Metro Detroit area. Carolyn was also given a special sign of respect by the Karmanos Cancer Institute as one of their “Heroes of Breast Cancer.” The 13-time Emmy award winner was also honored by the Associated Press, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
